For me the PlayStation was my gateway into the genre of survival horror. I got to experience games like Resident Evil, Silent Hill and Clock Tower at a very young age, and those games today still have a lasting impression on me. And even today the PlayStation continues to bring out more titles for the genre keeping it alive and relevant. As we approach the Halloween season are there games that you feel you absolutely must play much like the tradition of movies and tv shows that are absolute musts during the season?

Not survival horror but this time of year calls for some Soul Reaver or some Medievil which I think has a really good Halloween atmosphere.  I also like Dino Crisis but to me that always had a different feeling with the survival horror type gameplay

MediEvil games have a great Halloween feel that you will appreciate for sure.
About other games that also have Halloween feel im not really remembering any atm...

There are great survival horror games for the Playstation but most of them, if not all don't have that Halloween feel that you are looking for.
Anyway regardless that i will give you a list of survival/action horror games that you should check out:

Alone in the Dark The New Nightmare
Blood Omen Legacy of Kain
Chaos Break
Clock Tower
Dino Crisis
Fear Effect
Fear Effect 2
Galerians
Hellnight
Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver
Martian Gothic Unification
Nightmare Creatures
Nightmare Creatures 2
Resident Evil
Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil 3
Silent Hill

So yes, your best bet is most likely Medievil and Medievil 2 if you want to feel the Halloween in your console!
Have fun

Silent Hill and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, two of the best survival horror games I have ever played not counting Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3 on the PS2.

It depends what you want from your survival horror experience. There are a range of experiences available:

1. Not At All Frightening but Horror Themed
MediEvil 1 & 2, Overblood 1 & 2 (these are supposed to be frightening but are not due to being shite)

2. A Bit Scary but Generally a Fun Romp
Dino Crisis 2, Galerians, Parasite Eve 2, Fear Effect 1 & 2

3. Frightening but with Chuckles (Mostly at the Voice Acting)
Resident Evil, Dino Crisis, D, Nightmare Creatures 1 & 2, Martian Gothic: Unification

4. Legitimately Frightening
Resident Evil 2 & 3, Clock Tower, Alone in the Dark: the New Nightmare, Shadow Man (if you can forgive the technical shortcomings)

5. A Harrowing Nightmare Necessitating the Subsequent Attention of Both a Priest and a Launderette/Underpants Salesman
Silent Hill

'D' is a strange game... I don't think I ever beat it myself, I remember getting stuck in this quick-time-event where a knight knocks you down a pit! The sound effects were so retro that me and my friend burst into laughter. Unique game for the PS1 I'll give it that...

Well done Gentleman, excellent ratings! My Favorites are the 3 Resident Evil (especially the 2) and both Dino Crisis ... not counting Shadow Man and Silent Hill!

It's interesting to see the box art from different regions. Myself I can play this until I get to the combination lock puzzle and give up.

I played D on a Saturn with top top half of the case removed & a 30cm fan blowing on it to stopping it from overheating.
I've seen all of endings.
