This will be the 5th Game of the Year event we've held at Playstation Age Fourms. It gives us a chance to reflect upon this years latest and define this years greatest!

So the rules are:

- I recommend a maximum of mention of 3 titles to keep some order to it. ( Remember, this is not just voting for your favourite, this also gives your 2nd and 3rd contender a chance to fight. Which might be worthwhile should your no.1 not succeed.)
- Each game mentioned will earn a point. The top 10 games mentioned will contend in the competition.
- The title has to of been released within December 1st 2016 - November 30th 2017! for Playstation 3, Playstation 4 and Playstation Vita. (Games from December can be put forward for receommendation too!)
- They cannot be a re-releases, port or remake (No Crash N.SANE  Trilogy, Wipeout Omega Collection or the upcoming Remaster of L.A. Noire for example, they cannot qualify).
- This thread will be live from November 1st - Novemeber 30th, then in December a new live thread with the top 10 titles will compete for Game of the Year! Upon January the 1st we will start are new year with crowning a champion for 2017!

(We now do include digital titles for recommendation, we're starting to see note worthy titles which shouldn't be ignored.)

I think overall it's been a very good year for gaming, the PS4 has certainly stormd forward as the dominant console and has had an onslaught of title throught out the year, I'm personally going to find it tircky to narrow it down to 3 suggestions to put forward.

Incase anyone is interested, here are the results of the previous 3 years:

If I had to choose right now, i'd go for

- NieR: Automata
- Resident Evil VII
- Yakuza 0

But that might change upon reflection before the 30th.

I still haven't played anything that came out this year lol. I've been waiting for horizon to get the uncharted $20 treatment.

I'm sailing with you guys on that notion, I find there are times when I have often found a preferred game when it is too late - Life is Strange being a notable example. But we're not reviewers, I accept that were all consumers and can't buy everything at once. I too have yet to play Horizon, I've been very close to getting it but that DLC put me off and I'm not waiting for the DLC edition in December! I was close to doing the same with Reseident Evil VII but snagged the steelbook edition for a cheap price and sold it recently to the value needed for me to get the upcoming Gold Edition - I just hope it's all on Disc and not inc, using the DLC with a code or I'll cry.

But it's worth looking back at all the releases we've had this year, in all honesty I even forgot NieR: Automata was this year, but I had a lot of fun with it for sure

Ive actually played a lot more current games this year than the past 3-4 years. I have to say the stuff out right now is awesome. Im interested in seeing all the nominations this year (not that it will change my vote. Ys VIII is the best game ever made!)

Is Ys that good?  I don't know crap about it other than RPG goodness.  What's the battle system like?

Its an open world fighting style. You have 3 different weapon types. Slashing, piercing, heavy along with enemies that have weaknesses to those 3.

Well this is disappointing. The only game I really liked for the PS4 was Final Fantasy XII Zodiac Age. I find this rule ridiculous that we cannot nominate a remake.

I'm looking for the below FF12's for the PS2, PM me if you can help!

SCAJ-20188: International - Zodiac Job System (HK/SG)
SCKA-20073: Original release (KR)
SCKA-20138: International - Zodiac Job System Ultimate Hits (KR)

Simply put, it wasn't a remake but a Remaster. Remakes are projects set to re-envision/modernise, while a Remaster is the same game just given a resolution boost - and maybe a few minor tweaks, like how FFX had nwew character models. So take the Resident Evil Remake, had this competition been held upon it's year of release, that would have been a prime candidate, but the Re-release/Remastering of the title with RE Zero on PS4 recently would not count. The reason being is competitions like this are meant to highlight new material, not games that have already been established and loved. If we had Remasters entered into the competition and they kept winning year after year becasue of their legacy and nostalgia, there wouldn't be any point in having such a competition yearly.

Plus Final fantasy xii sucked the first time around. I don't see how some graphical upgrades could have fixed that. You must mean final fantasy X ? Yeah that must be it. That doesn't count either.

The problem with most demos is that there is no lead up to anything or "learning" of the controls. They just throw you out to the wolves. I think if you played the actual game, you would get to see how great the game actually is. Its breathtaking at times.

I honestly don't think I played any new for 2017 games this year besides Breath of the Wild. Unless you want to count the Crash Bandicoot remake (which I wouldn't), but I was too disappointed in that game to nominate it for anything.

Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

Really, I quite enjoyed what I've played of the N.Sane Trilogy so far. I know they purposefully put a difficulty spike on it whic I don't approve of, but it still felt vry true in spirit to the original - I got all the Gems in Crash 1, but Ican't see myself getting a Relic on them torturous bridge levels!

Tough to pick 3 because there were a lot of great ones!

I'll have to go with this for now but I have until the end of the month to change it:

Number 1 pick: Resident Evil 7
2nd place runner up pick: What Remains of Edith Finch
3rd place runner up pick: Sonic Mania

My complaints on the N-Saine Trilogy are 100% on the controls and jumping physics.  If they had left them the same as the original, it would probably be one of my favorite games in the past 10 years.

And for the record (because several people have accused me of being rusty) I can still beat Crash 1 and 2 with my eyes closed (I complete a full playthrough of each game at least once a year).

1. Nier Automata
2. Persona 5
3. Horizon Zero Dawn

Not sure if Persona counts for the title as the game was released last year in Japan, in that case the one that would make the list in the third place would be Nex Machina

Oh no Persona 5 counts... I just have to own up to not getting far in it... I chugged along with Persona 3 too, something about the daily structure in that game makes me play it in portions... months apart! Terrible I know

@TDIRunner - Yeah it was certainnly tricky, which has put me off going after the Relics in Crash 1 - I dread doing them Bridge levels in one go..
